U.K. dental school sees surge in new applicants

Peninsula Dental School, which was established in 2006 and is the first new dental school in the U.K. in 40 years, has seen a 32% rise in student applications for 2010, outstripping national trends of 10%, according to a Dentistry.co.uk article.

The rise in applications means the school has a ratio of more than seven applicants for each opening, putting it on par with much longer-established dental schools, according to the article.

"We were delighted with the outstanding increase in applications last year, and we were hopeful that we would see a healthy rise for 2010, but an increase of 32% on last year is beyond expectation," said Dean Liz Kay in the article.
