U.S. dentists traveled to Akumal, Mexico, to provide free dental care to more than 1,140 patients.
A team of 15 Aspen Dental independent practitioners partnered with Aspen Dental's Overseas Outreach program and Global Dental Relief to provide treatment over the course of one week.
The team provided 501 cleanings, 521 fluoride treatments, and 63 extractions. About 40% of the patients seen were children. In addition to treating patients' dental needs, providers also taught oral hygiene lessons to nearly 600 children, according to Aspen Dental.
Aspen Dental's Overseas Outreach Program brings dental professionals to countries in need of free dental care. The program has been active for more than five years and has served many communities, including those in Guatemala, Argentina, and Mexico, the company stated.
This trip builds on Aspen's Healthy Mouth Movement, an ongoing community initiative launched in 2014 to deliver free dental care to those in need.
