Friends, this is a challenging time. Emotions are running high and facts are easily missed. That said, we need the facts.
Fact No. 1: I get far more intelligent when I stay in my lane and bring in experts who can deliver what I cannot.
Fact No. 2: Dr. Robert Stein, a tremendous friend and pulmonologist is just the expert we need right now, especially given some of the latest advice from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) about wearing masks and face coverings in public.
"Facts do not cease to exist just because they're ignored" -- Aldous Huxley
Friends, here are my thoughts:
- "Stay at home" has been the message for a few weeks now. Some have listened. Some have bent the facts.
- "Emergency treatment only" has been the recommendation from the ADA. Some have listened. Too many have bent the facts.
If you're already on board, I'm sending you a virtual hug. If you're on the fence because you're afraid of losing your practice, I understand. I have conversations with my two partners daily to that end. If you're on the fence because you love your team and cannot bear the alternative, I understand. Having "the talk" with my team was one of the most difficult conversations I've ever had to have.
Mostly, if you're on the fence because you don't believe this virus has the potential that you're hearing on the news and/or you feel the media is overdramatizing, I can understand you too.
Please listen to Dr. Rob. What he shares in this video powered by CareCredit and Patterson Dental is what he is seeing as he helps patients, old and young, in the intensive care unit. What he shares is based on the best facts we currently have. What he didn't share are the three physician friends who will pass in the next week because this virus is so very virulent for some.
I implore you to please watch this video. Sit with your teams. Sit with your families. Share this with everyone you know. Share this twice with people you think may be less likely to listen.
