A ransomware attack on a Florida dental office instructed a local dentist to pay $10,000 to retrieve encrypted accounting files.

The attack occurred at the dental office of Carl Bilancione, DMD, in Maitland, FL, according to a news report from WKMG. Hackers encrypted the office's QuickBooks accounts and demanded a $10,000 ransom to unlock them.

The hackers took five months of accounting files, but patient records were safe, according to the story. The county sheriff's department encouraged Dr. Bilancione and other small business owners to never pay the ransom -- your information might end up on the dark web as a person who will pay to get data back.
