The American Institute of Dental Public Health (AIDPH) and CareQuest Institute are teaming up to advance oral health equity.
Veterans are more likely than nonveterans to experience oral diseases, and many veterans aren't covered through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs unless they have a preexisting dental condition, a disability, or were a prisoner of war. In addition, Medicare only pays for certain dental services patients receive in the hospital, AIDPH said.
These disjointed access points create an inequitable system of oral health care for veterans, AIDPH said. The partnership will focus on developing and implementing data-driven recommendations informed by the veteran community.
