A novel toothpaste demonstrated significant improvements in the gum health of patients with periodontitis in a six-month study published in the Journal of Periodontology.
Researchers from the University of California, Irvine (UCI) and other institutions compared subjects who brushed with the novel dental gel with those who used an over-the-counter, antiplaque, antigingivitis toothpaste approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Gum pocket depth improved in more than 80% of diseased sites among individuals who brushed with the novel gel, according to a release from the UCI Beckman Laser Institute & Medical Clinic about the study.
