Oral surgeon cleared in malpractice case

An oral surgeon in Maine has been cleared of charges of negligence brought by a patient he performed a biopsy on in 2002, according to news reports.

Nancy Jacob claimed Jan Kippax, D.M.D., violated the standard of care while taking a biopsy of the upper left side of her mouth at his Lewiston office in December 2002. She said the biopsy left her with permanent nerve damage that ruined her smile.

Jurors deliberated less than an hour before returning a 8-0 verdict in favor of the defendant, the Kennebec Journal reported.
