Rib and hip bones used to rebuild face after oral cancer

A U.K. man underwent 16 operations involving bones, skin, and arteries from various parts of his body to rebuild his face after oral cancer ravaged it, according to a story on oralcancernews.org.

Doctors used bone tissue from Tim Gallego's rib cage and hips to create a new nose and jaw to support new teeth, the Web site reported. In addition, arteries from both legs were implanted into his neck, and skin from his wrists was grafted onto his face.

It took eight years but he has now fully recovered, according to the story.
