Del Medical to exit medical imaging but stays in dental

The parent company of x-ray manufacturer Del Medical plans to sell off or shut down the medical imaging division, if a white knight can't be found.

Del Global Technologies made the announcement in reporting financial results for its 2009 fiscal year.

However, the move does not affect the company's Villa subsidiary, which markets the Endos, Rotograph, and Strato intraoral and panoramic systems for dentistry, according to Mark Zorko, chief financial officer of Del Global Technologies.

In fact, the company is continuing with new product development for dental, Zorko told DrBicuspid.com.

The firm's fourth-quarter financial results reflected its difficulties: Sales dropped 40.2% to $16.3 million in the most recent period, from $27.2 million in the same period of 2008. Sales in the Del Medical division fell 43.4% to $12.9 million, compared with $22.8 million in the prior year's fourth quarter.
