CDA honors dentist for lifetime of community service

The California Dental Association (CDA) Foundation Humanitarian Award was recently presented to Guillermo C. Vicuna, D.D.S., for a lifetime of advocating for underserved patients in the San Joaquin Valley.

Dr. Vicuna recently returned to his native Argentina, but his brother accepted the award on his behalf at a presentation last month at the CDA House of Delegates meeting in Sacramento.

Among his list of accomplishments is the establishment of the Su Salud healthcare program in 1983, which brings oral health care to families and individuals who would have otherwise had no help, according to a CDA press release.

In addition, Dr. Vicuna brought senior dental students from Dugoni School of Dentistry to San Francisco every Saturday to provide volunteer dental services to those who otherwise lacked access to care, noted the release. He also co-founded the Disease Prevention Center in Stockton and the Tour of Life Education program and received a Point of Light Award from President George Bush in 1991 and a Health Care Champion Award in 2006 from Sen. Barbara Boxer.
