Biomet implant sales down 8% in Q2

Implant maker Biomet announced that sales of dental reconstructive devices decreased 8% during the second quarter of fiscal 2010 compared to the second quarter of 2009.

Net sales reached $696 million in the second quarter, up from $643 million in the second quarter of 2009. The company reported a net loss of $7 million, up from $40 million in the same quarter a year ago.

Although overall sales increased by 8% worldwide, and reconstructive sales excluding dental increased 12%, Biomet attributed the decline in dental sales to the recession.

In constant currency, dental sales decreased by 5% and net sales increased by 5%.
