A patient has filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against a West Virginia dentist alleging that he suffered a "shower of strokes" two weeks after he had 25 teeth extracted, according to a story in the West Virginia Record.
Arthur Winter filed the suit on August 13 against T. Dean Bobbitt, D.D.S., who operates Oral Surgery Associates in Parkersburg, WV. The extractions were done in August 2008, according to the story.
The series of strokes, Winter alleges, were a result of Dr. Bobbitt's failure to "properly screen [Winter], given [his] age, medical history and size, to determine if [he] was an appropriate candidate for the procedure." Also, Dr. Bobbitt "failed to recognize the obvious signs of stroke which Mr. Winter displayed immediately following the extraction of his teeth and permitted Mr. Winter to leave his office without further medical intervention," the Record reported.
In addition to incurring "significant medical expenses," Winter claims he has "pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, mental anguish, and embarrassment" as a result of the strokes, according to the story.
