Tooth in man's ear caused 33 years of pain

A 47-year-old U.K. man who suffered from an "excruciating earache" for 33 years recently discovered the root cause: a tooth.

Stephen Hirst was 14 when he first began complaining of painful headaches and earaches, according to a story in the Daily Mail. But doctors were unable to determine the cause, despite numerous examinations over the years.

During a recent visit to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield, however, a nurse spotted the culprit in his ear canal using a microscopic probe and extracted the tooth with tweezers.

Hirst said he isn't sure how it got there but that he is now sleeping peacefully for the first time in years.
