HeartFriendly Dentist program debuts in Canada

bioAnalytics has introduced its HeartFriendly Dentist program to dental professionals in Canada and is partnering with Biosign Technologies to offer participants a unique health-monitoring device for their patients.

The HeartFriendly Dentist program is designed to empower dentists in the screening and monitoring of various cardiovascular risks, according to the companies. Through educational awareness and patient monitoring of vital signs, HeartFriendly Dentist can help reinforce the need for lifestyle modifications, pharmacological therapies, and adherence to treatment when dealing with health compromised patients.

The HeartFriendly Dentist program features Biosign's UFIT TEN-10 health monitor, which measures patients' vital signs.

"This testing may assist dentists in detecting abnormal vital signs, such as high blood pressure and irregular pulse, and in referring patients to physicians as needed. We believe the UFIT TEN-10, utilized at the point of care, will eventually become a standard tool for every dental clinic and assist in improving overall patient health," said Steve Colivas, president of bioAnalytics, in a press release.

Under the HeartFriendly Dentist program, dental professionals use UFIT TEN-10 to conduct a 60-second reading similar to that using a blood pressure cuff. Test results include blood pressure statistics (systolic, diastolic, and mean arterial pressure) and also pulse rate average and variability.

The HeartFriendly Dentist is being introduced to Canadian dental offices on a subscription basis for a special introductory price of $68 a month per clinic. The monthly fee includes the UFIT from Biosign Technologies, setup, installation, and support. With UFIT, dental professionals can take unlimited vital signs readings; securely access those vital signs records remotely at any time and from anywhere Internet access is available. Dental professionals who have multiple operatories within their clinic may purchase additional UFIT Pulse Acquisition Pads for use within their practice.
