Pa. teen extracts own teeth with pliers

A Pennsylvania teenager extracted two of his teeth with pliers after his father allegedly refused to take him to the dentist, according to an Associated Press story.

The 14-year-old had to have emergency oral surgery to have shards of his teeth removed and periodontal tissue repaired in February after trying to relieve his ongoing dental pain himself. Police said the teen had complained of dental pain for six months before extracting the teeth himself in January.

The father, Francisco Torres, was arraigned April 19 on endangerment charges. Investigators said he had insurance that would have covered his son's dental care.

Torres was released on bail.
