An Oregon woman who underwent oral surgery woke up from the procedure with a curious idiosyncracy -- she now speaks with a different accent, according to a news story by MSNBC.
The 56-year-old Karen Butler now speaks an odd mixture of Irish, Scottish, and northern British, with a dash of Australian and South Africa.
Although not confirmed, Butler is likely suffering from a neurological disorder called foreign accent syndrome, which affects only about 100 people worldwide, according to MSNBC.
The symptoms appeared immediately after her oral surgery and has persisted for 18 months, according to the report.
As for skeptics who think she is faking, Butler has this response: "I don't think you could, not for a year and a half."
