Dental specialities among highest paying jobs

Oral and maxillofacial surgeons and orthodontists are among the top five highest-paying jobs in the U.S., according to an analysis of federal compensation data for 801 occupations published in Business Journals.

Topping the list are surgeons, who earned an average of $219,770 in 2009, the latest year for which official figures are available from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Coming in second are anesthesiologists ($211,750), followed by oral and maxillofacial surgeons ($210,710), orthodontists ($206,190), and obstetricians and gynecologists ($204,470).

The top nine paying positions are related to healthcare, the story noted. Corporate chief executives earned an average of $167,280 in 2009.
