Dr. Oz to profile LA free health clinic

On November 23, the "Dr. Oz Show" will profile CareNow/LA, the Los Angeles clinic that provided free medical, dental, and vision services to nearly 4,000 patients last month.

The event was held October 20-23 at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena. Dr. Oz -- Mehmet Oz, MD, vicecchair of surgery at Columbia University -- was among the CareNow volunteer doctors who provided almost 6,700 procedures, including dental restorations, extractions, and cleanings; eye exams and prescription glasses; Pap smears; mammograms; and visits with family doctors, podiatrists, dermatologists, cardiologists, and other specialists.

Professional public health and medical volunteers conducted 1,100 HIV tests, provided 1,780 immunizations, and connected more than 1,000 people who needed follow-up care to medical homes in their community. Some 450 people received appointments.
