Australian dentists under audit granted case reviews

More than 600 Australian dentists being audited for possible Medicare payment irregularities have been granted case reviews in light of the government's admission that its compliance plan was flawed, the Great Lakes Advocate reported.

Retroactive changes were recently announced by the minister of Human Services. Previously, Medicare had claimed that it was owed a repayment of $21.6 million from dentists who had performed legitimate procedures but botched details of their paperwork requirements.

Some 1,000 complaints had been filed by dentists in reference to the Medicare chronic care dental scheme, the article noted.
