Hygienist to donate kidney to patient

A South Carolina hygienist is giving her patient more than just a teeth cleaning; she is scheduled to give him one of her kidneys this week.

Pam Ochiltree, a hygienist in North Augusta, had been cleaning the teeth of one of her patients, Corey Hymon, for about four years. Hymon was diagnosed with kidney failure and a dozen volunteers were tested to see if they were a match, according to a WJBF.com story. Of those dozen, three were compatible, but all three ended up not being able to donate.

Ochiltree then tested and was found to be a match. After more testing and a successful program of weight loss, she was cleared to donate in January. Surgery is scheduled for Friday at Georgia Regents University.
