GC America has announced the results of a multicenter study looking into the efficacy of its Equia Forte glass hybrid technology.
The split-mouth study began in 2015 as a way to compare the performance of Equia Forte with nanohybrid composite resin in medium to large class II restorations. It included 180 patients and 360 restorations placed at dental schools in Croatia, Italy, Serbia, and Turkey.
The two-year study showed that GC's glass hybrid restorative had a 94% survival rate, which was comparable to the rate for the nanohybrid resin composite. The investigators plan to continue their research by creating a model to measure the wear of the two composite types over time.
